Small and neglected, with his mother unwilling to reveal his father's identity, Merlin must disguise his intelligence - and hide his occasional ability to know things before they happen - in order to keep himself safe.
In the summer of , Kate Herrick, widowed by the war, returns to Rose Cottage, her childhood home. A tiny thatched dwelling nestled in an idyllic country setting, Rose Cottage at first appears the picture of tranquility. But Kate soon discovers that someone has broken in; the papers that are the object of her have disappeared, and the village seethes with gossip. How harmless are her elderly neighbors, who are suspected of witchcraft?
The Prince and the Pilgrim (Arthurian Saga, #5) by Mary Stewart
In this epic work, Bradley follows the arc of the timeless tale from the perspective of its previously marginalized female characters: Celtic priestess Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar, and High Priestess Viviane. Gilly Ramsey's lonely childhood was brightened only by visits to her godmother until her death, when the then grown-up Gilly inherited the family cottage, Thornyhold. A nice romantic Arthurian story. Alexander meets and is ensnared by one of King Arthur's sisters. Mary Stewart has Arthur having two sisters - Morgause and Morgan Arthur isn't really involved in this story.
I like how Alice comes to realize the truth behind the relics. I wanted to finish Stewart's Arthurian books, so I broke down and bought the hardback. I'm glad that I did, because I will probably re-read this in the future.
It was my "take to appointments" book Mary Stewart was one of the 20th century's bestselling and best-loved novelists. She was born in Sunderland, County Durham in , but lived for most of her life in Scotland, a source of much inspiration for her writing.
