The staff is lovely and gracefully accommodated us without a reservation. As soon as we were seated, we were presented a gorgeous aperativo slate filled with baked melanzane, hard cheese, pollo e funghi, calamari fritti, olives, large capers, and bread. We finished with a luscious hazelnut tart with cocoa creme ball. We noticed that other tables were requesting grilled whole fish, which looked lovely too - we can't wait to come back and try. As we basked in the afterglow finishing our wine, our chef emerged from the kitchen with a large plate of unshelled fava beans for one of the tables.

She noticed everyone else ogling them, and a few minutes later every table had a plate of them. This broke the ice and within moments the room had turned into a small party with everyone sharing wine and stories. This was our third visit - this time in winter. With each visit we have enjoyed the creativity and the genuineness of the dishes note the high quality of the ingredients and the salute to the regional cooking of Liguria. We are also very taken by the service and friendliness of all those working at La Regola.

Daniele, the sommelier, is helpful and knowledgeable. It being winter there was alas no pesto but instead we enjoyed various dishes using lamb, pigeon, cotecchino and spices. The chef, Marina let's hear it for a female chef , having sailed the world, had even prepared a lamb curry which I opted for - not necessarily a regional salute but prepared nonetheless with great expertise.

It was delicious and not on the menu. Don't forget to ask what else is ready and waiting in the kitchen. My husband had the lamb that had slow cooked for 11 hours a technique being used here - what a delight - so moist and full of flavor. If you do go in winter, opt to eat downstairs in the "grotta" where ancient roman walls more than 6 meters underground allow you to experience a bit of history. Winter or summer this restaurant is a pleasure thanks to the staff, the chef and the food and of course the location.
